Andrew Lynn's experience in the field of orthopaedics and regenerative medicine spans nine years and four countries; it includes the initiation, management, and implementation of product-focused programs involving artificial prostheses for joint replacement and tissue regeneration scaffolds for orthopaedic, neurosurgical, and thoracic applications. He has worked extensively with world-renowned surgeons on initiatives to develop and commercialise regenerative medical treatments for a range of applications.
Dr. Lynn founded Orthomimetics (OM) in March 2005, on the basis of his doctoral research conducted in conjunction with a team of colleagues from the University of Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University. The successful transition from university-based researcher to CEO of an independent company earned Dr Lynn the 2008 European Academic Enterprise Award for University Entrepreneurs in Chemistry and Materials and a place in the 2009 MIT Technology Review TR35, its annual list of 35 outstanding men and women under the age of 35 who exemplify the spirit of innovation in business and technology.
Ann Savell has over twenty years of experience the healthcare industry. Her career has spanned both the public and commercial sectors of the medical devices and pharmaceuticals industry and included responsibilities for teaching, development and management. Ann most recently acted as Associate Director of Clinical Operations and Clinical Study Management at Prosidion Limited until its acquisition by OSI Pharmaceuticals, and her previous roles have included project management positions with GSK, Wyeth, PPD and Leo Pharmaceuticals. Ann holds an MBA from the Open University, is a member of the Royal College of Nursing and has been appointed a Chartered Scientist by the Institute of Clinical Research.
Mark Withers brings to OM a wealth of orthopaedic-related experience both in the UK and international markets. His previous roles have included several years in Singapore as the Regional Marketing Manager for Smith & Nephew developing the orthopaedic business in Far East markets. His most recent appointments have been for Smith & Nephew Orthopaedics in the UK, where he headed the UK joint replacement division and more recently for the technology company, Inion, as Division Manager for the global Sports Medicine product line. This broad level of experience has provided Mark with strong links within the surgeon community and a deep understanding of the orthopaedic business sector. Mark graduated with a degree in Applied Chemistry and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing.
Tim Mead is an experienced mechanical engineer with an understanding of a broad range of technologies. He has a background in automated systems from concept creation, design and implementation, bringing together mechanical, electrical and electronic and control systems under software control. He has previously worked at the Automation Partnership, which specialises in the bespoke manufacture of large scale robotics for the drug discovery and cell research industries. Prior to that he was a project engineer at Weston Medical plc, working on the development of a needle-free injector system for drug delivery, and CarnaudMetalBox, where he supplied and serviced automated can manufacturing and assembly plant to food manufacturers. Tim obtained a BSc in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine and an MBA from the University of Bradford.
Dr Mason is Chairman or Director of several private and publicly quoted companies in the life sciences and healthcare sectors.
He has considerable experience spanning the successful commercial and financial development and value realisation of life science
and healthcare focused industries. Bill has strong management expertise with a good track record in developing innovative advanced
technology businesses and realising shareholder value. He works extensively with private equity investment groups, VC funds and
corporate finance firms in the life science and healthcare domains. Bill’s current directorships include Sage Healthcare Ltd,
Amarin Plc, Camlab Ltd, Team Consulting Ltd, Zygem Ltd and Sphere Medical Technologies Ltd.
Professor William Bonfield is Professor of Medical Materials at the University of Cambridge and a co-founder of OrthoMimetics. Professor Bonfield's pioneering contributions to the field of medical materials have been internationally recognised with the Fellowship of Engineering Prince Phillip Gold Medal, recognition as a Fellow of the Royal Society, and appointment as Commander of the British Empire (CBE).
Professor Bonfield currently holds directorships with ApaTech and Abonetics 2000 and currently sits on the Scientific Advisory Boards of Smith & Nephew, Ranier Technology, and Biocompatibles International.
Mr Dyer Bartlett has a distinguished record as a chartered accountant with Deloitte Haskins & Sells (London and Atlanta), in the investment banking sector with Hoare Govett, Arbuthnot Latham and Guinness Mahon, and as founder and director of his own financial consultancy. A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1991, Max acts as Non-Executive Director and Finance Director for a number of private and public companies, including Cytomyx, Freeclaim IDC, Team Consulting and Acaris. Max was recently appointed Non-Executive Chairman of York Pharma PLC.
Heidi Hsueh is the founder and Managing Partner of SRPE LLP (www.srpe.co.uk), a London-based private equity firm which specializes in medical technology, information technology and media sectors. Heidi has great experience in business strategy, reengineering and marketing. Heidi was a founder of pAsia, Inc (1995-2001), formerly one of the most recognised Internet/ software companies in the greater China area, where she was responsible for corporate finance, business development, sales and marketing.
In 1997 Heidi represented Taiwan as a delegate at the Asian Pacific Economic Corporation in Canada and was a speaker at the 2001 Fortune Global Forum in Hong Kong. Heidi graduated from National Taiwan University with a degree in Biochemistry, an MBA from National Chen-Chi University and a MPhil in International Relations from Cambridge University.
Mr Patrick West’s commercial experience spans companies from start-up to Fortune 500. He began his career with the Stryker Corporation in 1990, becoming an award-winning sales representative for Stryker’s Endoscopy division. He then went on to lead the development and market expansion activities in the Instruments division before an eight-year tenure as Global Vice President of Marketing and Sales of the Biotech division, where he was responsible for the recruitment and strategic management of a worldwide sales force in the lead up to the launch of Stryker’s first-in-class bone morphogenetic protein product.
In 2002 Mr West led the acquisition of Industrial Actuation Group, LLC (IAG) and the concurrent founding of its sister company, MaxTorque, LLC. As CEO of MaxTorque, Patrick led the company from product to market, and in 2009 negotiated its successful sale to a major corporation.
